Commercials and Unmodified Land Rovers

Commercials Section: Martin Tucker

The vehicles displayed illustrate how transportation manufacturers have changed over the years and how they each played their part in history. Alongside regular exhibits are remarkable stories of barn finds, restoration projects and histories to be told.

Ever since the birth of the show in the 1970s commercial vehicles have played an integral part. Every year the classic commercial section has grown, with a record number of over 300 vehicles preparing for our last event including a Ford Model T van and a Bristol HA6L on display. The best of British is represented with examples from Foden, ERF, Bedford, AEC, Commer, Atkinson, Scammel, Bristol, Dennis, Ford, Austin, Leyland, and Morris.

The European commercial vehicle which dominate the our roads now, following the demise or takeover of British commercial vehicle manufacturers, such as MAN, Mercedes, Scania and Volvo, are all showcased too whilst from across “the pond” we have classic icons of stateside culture from the likes of Mack, Kenworth and Peterbuilt in attendance.

Unmodified Land Rovers: Alan Coward

If you wanted to choose an object that represents solid rugged reliability and dependability, making its presence felt in some of the most hostile and demanding terrain, it could be none other than the Land Rover.  It is without doubt the original multi-purpose vehicle, being found everywhere from Helmand to Hertfordshire.

The tradition Land Rover’s secret lay in its versatility, making it the ideal vehicle for adaptation to a particular role, be that with the local farmer or fighting alongside the army in some of the most inhospitable parts of the world.

In this section, way pay tribute to the unmodified Land Rover in its various forms.  As you walk round the show you will notice it also pops up in a variety of guises in various other sections too!
